"The summit will focus on strategic matching under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. Themed at ‘Promoting Belt and Road global cooperation, seizing new opportunities for Sino-LAC economic and trade development’, this year's summit will mainly discuss about Chinese and Latin American business community's participation in global economic governance to achieve prosperous and stable development of China and Latin America. Both sides will jointly build a community with shared destiny. Meanwhile, cooperation opportunities and intentions in infrastructure, finance, trade, service industry, the development of SMEs and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will also be topics for discussion,” added Jiang.

Meanwhile, roundtable meetings between Chinese and Latin American trade promotion agencies, project match-making meetings, seminars, forums, China-LAC trade expo as well as some training sessions will also be held, as the sideline business events of the summit.

Jiang Zengwei said, the number of countries, delegates and deals to be reached in this year's summit is expected to hit a record high.

Francisco Carlo Escobar Pedreschi, Panama’s ambassador to China spoke highly of the role that China-LAC Business Summit plays in promoting Sino-LAC economic and trade ties. He said, Panama will actively participate in this year’s summit and bid for the 13th summit in 2019. He expected to have the support from governments, chambers of commerce and enterprises of both sides.

Ambassadors from 20 countries from Latin America and Caribbean region attended the briefing.

China-LAC Business Council was initiated by CCPIT in November, 2007. As China's first economic and trade promotion platform specialized in Latin American region, the summit is regarded as a flagship event for Sino-LAC practical cooperation. The annual summit is held in rotation in China and Latin American countries. Up to now, the summit was held for 11 times in China, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico and Uruguay. Each summit was attended by top leaders from China and Latin American countries and won support from the business communities of both sides.
