Member Updates: Georgia-Italy Business Forum in Tbilisi

On 17 July 2018, over 200 Italian and Georgian companies participated in the 2018 Georgia-Italy Business Forum. The forum was organized by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and supported by "Enterprise Georgia" and the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI). 

 

The forum was held during Italian President Sergio Mattarella’s official visit to Georgia and aimed at deepening economic, political and cultural ties between the two countries. The Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze and President of the Republic of Italy Sergio Mattarella, delivered speeches at the event. Nino Chikovani, the president of GCCI and Vice Chair of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC), was the moderator of the forum. The event was opened by the Minister of Finance of Georgia Ivane Machavariani and Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Italy Michele Geraci.

 

 

The forum discussions were focused on transport infrastructure, agricultural production, and intercontinental opportunities in energy and investment. Along with the main forum, the event panels were devoted to education and scientific researches and B2B meetings. 

 

BACKGROUND INFO

Enterprise Georgia (Entrepreneurship Development Agency) was established in March 2014 under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. Enterprise Georgia is the first government institution in Georgia mandated to facilitate private sector (and in particular SME) development through a variety of financial and technical support mechanisms, as well as export support. At the same time the Agency is an integral part of the new governmental program “Produce in Georgia”, initiated by the Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili to encourage domestic production and increase productivity and competitiveness of SMEs.

 

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia (GCCI) was established in 1960. It unites all regional chambers and aims at assisting Georgian business community. GCCI became a member of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC) since 2016.
