Member Updates: Hong Kong and Indonesia Seminar in Jakarta, Indonesia

On 26 June 2017, the "Belt and Road Initiative: Connecting China Hong Kong and Indonesia" seminar, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), was held in Jakarta.

 

Mr. Chan Mo-po, Paul, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. Wang Liping, Minister Counsellor (Eco & Com) of PR China Embassy in Indonesia, Mr. Nicholas Kwan, Director of Research, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Mr. Dino Patti Djalal, Founder of Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia, Mr. Thomas Lembong, Chairman of Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board, and Mr. James Cameron, Co-Head of Infrastructure and Real Estate Group – Asia Pacific HSBC, attended the seminar.

 

Mr. Chan Mo-po made a speech at the seminar. He said that Indonesia, for sure, is a key player in the Belt and Road Initiative, given its fast growing economy, its strategic location in Southeast Asia, as well as its vast human and natural resources. He also mentioned that Hong Kong, a long global model of free trade and free enterprise, has what it takes to serve what the Belt and Road needs. There is clear synergy and advantages for Hong Kong and Indonesia to work together to grasp the unprecedented opportunities that are emerging along the Belt and Road corridors.
