B&R News: Lebanon Keen for an Active Role in the Belt and Road Initiative

BEIRUT, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Al-Fayhaa Union of Municipalities signed an agreement with the Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC) on Saturday to join the SRCIC for an active role in the Belt and Road Initiative.

 

Head of Al-Fayhaa Union of Municipalities Ahmad Qamareddine and SRCIC Secretary General Li Zhonghang signed the agreement. Attended the agreement signing were also Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Wang Kejian. SRCIC Chairman Lu Jianzhong and other officials.

 

Adnan Kassar, the Honorary Chairman of the SRCIC and General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for the Arab Countries, and the President of the Lebanese Economic Organizations, hailed the Al-Fayhaa Union of Municipalities for joining the SRCIC, pointing to the "special importance of Tripoli and its huge potentials not only for Lebanon but for the whole region which enables it to enhance trade with China."

 

He added "we will not spare any effort in boosting Tripoli's standing and its openness to Chinese markets and such an alliance will prepare it to become a special hub for cooperation with China within the Belt and Road Initiative."

 

Mr. Kassar pointed to the strategic location of Tripoli, its seaport on the Mediterranean, its human resources, and the infrastructure of the airport, railroads and logistics services it provides.

 

He stressed "I am fully prepared to put my historic and long relation with China in the service of boosting the mutual benefits between Lebanon and China."

 

Mr. Qamareddine hailed Mr. Kassar's efforts in promoting Tripoli to become "an important economic location on the SRCIC map and in boosting the city to become an economic capital of Lebanon and a main hub for the reconstruction of Syria."
