On 13 July 2017, the 2017 Annual Conference of the Chinese Firms Going Abroad 50 Forum, commissioned by the Counsellor Office of the State Council (COSC) of the People's Republic of China and Centre for China and Globalization (CCG), was held in Beijing. Over 200 policymakers, think tank scholars and business executives attended the discussion to examine the new development of Chinese companies going abroad and explore how to leverage the “Belt and Road” Initiative to advance their globalization.

 

The topic this year is “Extensive Consultation, Joint Contribution and Shared Benefits – The Belt and Road Strategy and Chinese Enterprises' Going Global”. Mr. LIN Yifu, Counsellor of the State Council, Vice Chairman of All-China Federation Industry and Commerce and former Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank acted as Chair of the Forum and delivered a keynote speech. Mr. WANG Zhongwei, Chairman of COSC, Mr. CHEN Jian, former Vice Minister of Commerce of PRC, Mr. ZHOU Xiaofei, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Development and Reform Commission and Director of the General Office of the National Development and Reform Commission, Mr. YU Jianlong, Secretary-General of China Chamber of International Commerce, Mr. SUN Ping, Vice President of the Export-Import Bank of China, and Mr. DING Guorong, Executive Vice President of Silk Road Fund attended the Forum and delivered speeches.  

 

The Forum this year featured three panel discussions, including “Challenges and outlook for Manufacturers to go out”, “How will finance help Chinese enterprises to go out” and “Means and challenges for private enterprises to go out”.     

 

Mr. LI Zhonghang, Secretary-General of the SRCIC delivered a speech in the third panel discussion.

 

Mr. LI Zhonghang, Secretary-General of SRCIC, was invited to deliver a speech in the discussion of “Means and challenges for private enterprises to go out”. Firstly, he introduced the efforts the Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce had done in helping enterprises to go abroad to all the guests, summarized the achievements the SRCIC had in implementation of Belt and Road projects and facilitation of the commerce and culture in the Belt and Road region. He said that over the years, the SRCIC has actively supported the Belt and Road Initiative, and the SRCIC has the obligation to help Chinese enterprises to go abroad. He also provided suggestions to Chinese enterprises as follows: 1. Fully understand the culture of the target country and make a research about its policies and regulations, 2. Conduct an in-depth analysis of the risks in the target country, and strengthen prevention and response strategies, 3. Encourage chambers of commerce to take the lead and facilitate communications. Mr. Li said that the SRCIC will unite strengths and pool resources from different parties, facility international cooperation, and strive to be the “super connector” to help Chinese enterprises to “go out”.

 

Mr. LI Qiang, Deputy Secretary-General of SRCIC, and Mr. WANG Yan, Deputy Secretary-General of the SRCIC also attended the Forum.

 

During the event, CCG released the report of “Top 10 Trends in China’s Outbound Investment” and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of PRC released the research results and project plans of “SMEs under the Belt and Road Initiative”.
