SRCIC Delegation attends the Great Silk Road - Towards New Developments Forum in Turkmenistan

On 2 May, SRCIC delegation headed by Chairman Lu Jianzhong, paid an official visit to Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan at the invitation of Turkmenistan Foreign Ministry for attending the Great Silk Road-Towards New Developments Forum. More than 500 national officials and representatives from port operators, shipping companies, railway corporations of the Belt and Road countries were present at the forum.

President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said in his opening speech "The revival of the Silk Road has profound significance in politics, economy, and culture. The Silk Road does not only connect the Belt and Road countries in transportation, but also lays the basis for mutual understanding and respect, which contributes to building a more open and harmonious world. 2018 is the Silk Road Year for Turkmenistan. The country will work closely with international organizations for the revival of the ancient Silk Road.”

SRCIC Chairman Lu Jianzhong expressed in his speech that, in recent years, trade protectionism and anti-globalization sentiments were on the rise, which have jeopardized multilateralism and exacerbated instability of the global economy. “As a non-profit and non-government international business confederation, SRCIC unites 117 state-level organizational members from 75 countries to support the multilateralism by enhancing trade cooperation and building a global community with shared benefits and shared responsibilities”, Mr. Lu added.

 

Honorary Chairman Jemal Inashivili spoke in his speech that Turkmenistan had always played an important strategic role in the past and its role is becoming even more significant today when historical Silk Road is being revived. “The delegations of Turkmenistan, China, Azerbaijan, Turkey and more play important roles in constructing the New Silk Road.”

At the awarding ceremony, Chairman Lu Jianzhong and Honorary Chairman Jemal Inaishvili represented SRCIC and CACCI respectively to present the Certificate of Honour for Reviving the Ancient Silk Road and the Certificate of Appreciation for contribution to development of the Great Silk Road Countries to H.E. Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. Mr. Berdymukhamedov expressed his gratitude to both SRCIC and CACCI, speaking highly of both transnational organizations in promoting multilateral trade system and a community with a shared future ahead.

Chairman Lu and Honorary Chairman Jemal Inaishvili also attended the launching ceremony of Turkmenbashi International Seaport, and held friendly meetings with the Chinese ambassador to Turkmenistan Sun Weidong, Romanian Minister of Transportation Ionel Minea, Deputy Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Hongjoo Hahm, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Wang Kaiwen, President of International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations Babar Badat, and Secretary General of Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission ,TRACECA.
