2 Dec 2020

I. SRCIC members made concerted efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, SRCIC Secretariat worked with its members in 82 countries to fight the common challenge. Faced with shortage of medical supplies, many organizations extended a helping hand by donating funds and masks, including the Philippine Silk Road International Chamber of Commerce, the Mongolian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Ukrainian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Amman Chamber of Commerce, the CLK, etc. SRCIC also facilitated its members’ efforts by distributing the Handbook of COVID-19 Prevention in multiple languages, assisting the Zhangjiajie Municipality to donate masks to the Veneto City Wall Alliance of Italy, helping the Ukraine Embassy in China to evacuate its citizens to evacuate from Wuhan, and so on.

II. Highlights of SRCIC members' activities in 2020.

Despite the impact inflicted by the pandemic, SRCIC and its members continued their endeavors to promote the Belt and Road Initiative. The 3rd China International Import Expo was held as scheduled, in which SRCIC members from Belarus, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, etc. actively participated. Online forums and conferences were organized to advance the trade and investment relations between China and various countries, for instance the online meeting between TOBB and CCPIT, the China-ASEAN Investment and Cooperation Matching Conference, the 2020 Digital Economy International Cooperation Cloud Forum, etc.

III. Work plan for the next stage.

1. SRCIC will adapt its work method in the post-pandemic era, so as to better serve the needs and requirements of its members in terms of trade and investment, information exchange, projects promotion, networking, etc.

2. SRCIC will enable its members to seize the development opportunity brought by Hainan Free Trade Port and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

On June 1st, 2020, the Chinese government issued the "Overall Plan for the Construction of Hainan Free Trade Port", and on November 15, 2020, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and several other ASEAN countries signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP). Hainan Free Trade Port is an important hub for deepening cooperation between China and Southeast Asian countries, and the signing of RCEP will bring greater development opportunities to Hainan.

SRCIC endeavors to build the Hainan International Culture and Museum Industrial Park and the Hainan International Cultural Art Trade Center, so as to boost the transactions of cultural and art works, and promote the trade cooperation and people-to-people exchange among SRCIC members. As part of the efforts, the 2021 Silk Road Business Summit is also tentatively set to be held in Haikou, Hainan Province.
